Dentistry is one of the very few NHS services that you may have to pay for.

All treatment provided on the NHS will be what your dentist believes is necessary to achieve and maintain good oral health. This means that NHS dentistry will provide services to keep your mouth healthy and free from pain.

There are 3 standard charges for NHS dental treatment dependent on what treatment you require. These fees are applicable in all NHS surgeries.

NHS Dental Charges (2017 - 18):

NHS Band NHS Charge Treatment

Band 1

£21.60

This covers an examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.

Band 2

£59.10

This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth.

Band 3

£256.50

This covers everything in bands 1 and 2 plus anything made in a dental laboratory (i.e. crowns and dentures)
